New Haircut (Sorry Jen)

I was joking around with Jen....telling her I was going to post a pic of me and the boys "New Haircut's" as if we would "one-up" hers. I've never had my hair this short, maybe close one time during high school wrestling so some people have been giving some interesting comments... From "you look like Curly of the 3 stooges" (thanks a bunch by the way [heavy tones of sarcasm]...you know who you are), to...."it looks good" (no sarcasm for this one).

The boys buzz cuts followed not long after mine, they weren't sure if they would like it but in the end they do. Good summer cut...nice and easy, low maintainance.

They wanted to take a few silly pics too.
We did a mohawk on Brody at first, he thought it was cool but decided to cut it all the way after these pics were taken.

Yet another summit conquered!

It had been a while since we have been out on a date, and we weren't really looking forward to the old "get stuffed at dinner and feel miserable during a movie" date so we ended up hiking Camelback Mountain (and then went out for sushi). Our friends, Ryan & Tara Wayne, were major contributors to the plan of the evening. Anyhow, we had fun...the police Helicopter that buzzed by a few times just before sunset was pretty cool and the view is pretty awesome at the top. And in case you were wondering (since I mentioned it on my last two hikes) I don't want to talk about geocaching...at least for now.

New Haircut

I cut my hair...again!! I cut it a couple months ago but I got an A-line this time. I told myself when I cut my hair short 5 years ago that I would never do it again. I can't believe I did it!! I feel free. There are so many more things to do with short hair. I don't know if anyone else likes it but I love it. These aren't the best pics either but at least you get the idea. :)

Another Saturday Morning adventure

Okay....so I've become a bit infatuated with the idea of conquering the mountain peaks close to our house. I went on another "adventure" this morning...although much tougher than the last, and no hiking buddy to keep me company (don't worry, I still get phone service up there....in fact Jen called me when I was at the top). 1st of all, I really like going as far as I can on my mountain bike....in fact I wish I could go all the way on it but have not yet figured out how or if it is even possible. one reason I like taking the bike is because I don't have to waste any time coming back down....after all, it's the same stuff I saw on the way up, right?!

Well, here is the view from the top....pretty sweet, I must say. You can enlarge these pics a little bit if you click on them, but forgive the bad quality as these came off my camera phone because (like a dummy) I forgot my camera. Nice helmet hair, huh?!.

My GPS unit died when I was in the process of trying to find another Geo-Cache (I was only a few hundred feet from the GPS location where it is "supposedly" located), no luck though....This is getting a bit discouraging. Although I did find one that I was not looking for. This one was under a flag on a peak just out of view from the Anthem side of the mountain, it said the flag was placed there In November of last year in memory of the people who have lost their lives fight for our country. Lots of people have been up there and signed the log that was in a jar. Most recently (just five days ago, 4/14/08) someone placed a new flag to replace the old one that I assume was tattered & torn. The funny thing about this flag was it was put up there by the residents of a place called "Shan-Gri-La Ranch".....it's a nudist colony on the new river side of the mountain. As I'm reading this info that I pulled from the jar....I was wondering if they hiked up there NAKED?

By the way....This is the view of the summit from where I started....My house. Oh... and in case you are saying to yourself.....Man, that looks far!...it is.

Saturday morning adventure!

A friend of mine (Ryan Wayne) & I went on a hike this morning to a lone standing peak near Anthem, the kids see it every Sunday on the way to church & call it a volcano.

It's called Gavilan Peak, located on the north side of Anthem just before New River. We gained approximatley 1000 vertical feet so it was a decent climb for a morning expedition. I was making an attempt at locating something called a "Geo-cache" basically some type of container with a log book in it and possibly enough room to put some other items from other hikers, but we failed to locate it....maybe next time.

We saw an owl that was perched on a rock across from where we were climbing, as we approached this one spot it began to Squawk at us, so I began to look a little closer and just as I thought.....there was a nest.

It was in a really difficult spot to get to (not that we tried, we kept our distance) and for good reason, there was a ton of Mountain Lion scat (droppings) up there.

This picture was taken from near the top, that black dot on the far right hand side at the end of that road is my truck, you might have to click on the pic to enlarge it to actually see it. Also, if you know Ryan...you should call him to tell him how much you like his smile in this pic. (lol....he was trying not to)

Although it was a fairly technical hike, we did take take some time to smell the flowers...we just didn't get too close to them.

SPORTS!

A Bunch of pictures from the soccer season

Gage is now done with his soccer season, I wonder if anyone else kept score....because I did.....and his team was UNDEFEATED!! He was always an aggressive player but sometimes he would still ask in the middle of the game if it was time to go home yet.....I had to laugh.
Brody has just started Tee Ball, (I'm one of his coaches) he loves to hit the ball and run the bases, he usually gets bored in the field but this last week's game he got alot of the "action" as he played in the pitchers position and Short Stop. Brody did a great job stopping the ball and made good throws to 1st base!
