Playing "catch-up"....End of school, Kindergarten Recital

Okay....let me preface this one with a note that the day of the Kindergarten recital was also "Crazy hair day" for the end of school days spirit week. Brody wanted a mohawk (again) so since his hair had grown out a little we gave him one......needless to say, we didn't have time before the recital to get rid of the mohawk and make it all uniform in length...so...here he is, a cross between Chuck Lidell (UFC fighter) and a missionary at his kindergarten recital.

Playing "catch-up"....Mothers day

As Jen mentioned on an earlier post, it's been a while since we have made posts so we are playing catch up.

So I know it has been a while since we have posted and this posting is at the end of Baylee's 2nd grade school year. They had a party and there is a cute kid that likes Baylee and I told him to stand next to her. Actually, I told him to put his arm around her and he tried but Baylee ran away. So this is the pose I got after she came back from running away. His name is Trey and I think he is the tallest kid in 2nd grade and Baylee is one of the smallest.

T-ball...is over... :-( ... :-)

Well...as you might be able to tell by the title, we have some mixed emotions about t-ball being over. Brody probably cares a little less than I do but I think he will miss his new friends and having those two days a week to hit the ball, run the bases and fight over the ball with the other fielders that all attack the ball at the same time (if you've seen the pace of organized t-ball you'll understand not everyone see's action so when the ball is hit it becomes a free for all most of the time). Saturday was his last game and we had a little pizza party for the kids after the game, thanks to the Team Mom and the Head coach we had a really good party. The kids each got their own trophy with their name on it,
the piece of the team banner that had their name on it, as well as a ball that they could have their team-mates sign along with some other baseball related stickers & tatoo's etc...
Brody has done a great job in t-ball this season and has become a good hitter and fielder (when his attention doesn't stray too far from the game when it gets slow) and now Gage can't wait to play next year. Remember to click on the pics to see an enlarged view of them.

Fathers and sons

Last weekend was the Fathers & Sons campout for our ward, we went to none-other than........Mormon Lake (ironic?... maybe), Southeast of Flagstaff. Needless to say, we had tons of fun but here's a little history.... We have gone there three years in a row, two years ago (now that I think back) I remember it being pretty cold, it was just me and Brody in a huge tent so it was hard to stay warm. We had fun hanging out by the fire at that one but the fishing wasn't that great. Last year was much warmer, very pleasant weather so a fire wasn't absolutley necessary but what is camping without a fire? Brody & Gage went to that one and boy did we have fun! The fishing was really good, I just kept baiting their hooks and helping them reel them in. There is a picture of their catch in the 2007 slideshow on the right side of the page. This year was colder than even two years ago. Brody, Gage and Grayson went this time and I wasn't sure we would have much fun due to the cold wind that we felt as soon as we arrived. Gage was asking to go home as soon as he got out of the truck and although Grayson made constant attempts to get out of the truck to help Dad put up the tent he just couldn't handle the cold very long. Brody is one tough kid and never even complained, he was just excited to be camping and looking forward to doing some fishing the next day. Once the tent was up I was able to get the boys to sit by the fire and they felt much better after that, we had pleanty of sleeping bags and blankets but I tried to get all 4 of us in two sleeping bags that were zipped together (actually sleeping bags inside of the two that were zipped together) so they could take advantage of my body heat. It wasn't the most comfortable night's sleep for any of us, in fact I didn't get much sleep at all because Grayson was snoring right in my face most of the night (kinda cute at first but that didn't last long) & due to the tight quarters....I really had no alternantive. The next morning we got up and had a good breakfast made by the guys in the Young Mens group and off to the the fishin' hole we went! They caught 3 each and the second one that Brody caught was the record holder for most of the morning until just before it was time to award the trophy, at which time somebody caught one just a little bit longer....although I didn't see this other fish I'd bet brody's weighed more. The boys really wanted that trophy so we kept trying but eventually the fish stopped biting. I have fished my whole life....I even stayed on a houseboat for a whole week most summers with my Dad and Grandpa but even though they only caught 3 each, I don't ever remember a time in my life that I baited so many hooks in such a short period of time....in fact, I never even got to do any fishing of my own!
We also took the opportunity to ride horses......good ol' Ladybug!

New Haircut (Sorry Jen)

I was joking around with Jen....telling her I was going to post a pic of me and the boys "New Haircut's" as if we would "one-up" hers. I've never had my hair this short, maybe close one time during high school wrestling so some people have been giving some interesting comments... From "you look like Curly of the 3 stooges" (thanks a bunch by the way [heavy tones of sarcasm]...you know who you are), to...."it looks good" (no sarcasm for this one).

The boys buzz cuts followed not long after mine, they weren't sure if they would like it but in the end they do. Good summer cut...nice and easy, low maintainance.

Yet another summit conquered!

It had been a while since we have been out on a date, and we weren't really looking forward to the old "get stuffed at dinner and feel miserable during a movie" date so we ended up hiking Camelback Mountain (and then went out for sushi). Our friends, Ryan & Tara Wayne, were major contributors to the plan of the evening. Anyhow, we had fun...the police Helicopter that buzzed by a few times just before sunset was pretty cool and the view is pretty awesome at the top. And in case you were wondering (since I mentioned it on my last two hikes) I don't want to talk about geocaching...at least for now.
